should have known better- regret for not saying words when it was possible to. wishing to go back to the past, trying to explain away the reasons you didn’t so you can push the feelings away. choir in the background adds the familiar ache, the ending with all of the echos are the same as the negative thoughts swirling around in grief and others trying to console by saying you can’t change anything now. coming to terms with things that cant be fixed.
concerning the ufo sighting near highland Illinois- beautiful piano and flute gives the song a light feeling. a feeling of awe, looking out into space and feeling at one with the universe. a connection to everyone, as we are all visitors on earth, and will one day leave the planet, too.
chicago- intriguing hook in the beginning that leads into a fast paced melody like watching the city go by while riding a train. letting your hand flow through the wind out the window of a car on a roadtrip. again, compelling melodies with crazy interludes of different instruments. a youthful idealistic point of view where running away and starting your life over is truly whats best. many different layers throughout the song. your heart beats with the rhythm. a long song, but it does not seem that way since new things are introduced at every turn.
casimir pulaski day- a story in the form of a song. swinging melody. happy tune and sad words which makes this song incredibly interesting. anger about things that cannot be changed, and anger at god for things that he controls and lets happen. different instruments that tie all of the verses together and makes the song continuously unique.
He’s such an interesting person, and he puts such truth and honesty and feeling and rawness into his songs. You ache along with him as the songs go on. you can listen to them as background noise because his songs have that calming aspect, or you can actively listen and decode all of his lyrics. his songs can pass either way (background noise or active listening) and this adds more longevity to them and keeps you coming back for more.
